Everything you need to know about Red Mare Riding

Thank You for Your Interest in Red Mare!

LESSONS

We are located at Vossenberg Farms at 6009 NW 289th St, Ridgefield, WA, which is a lovely boarding facility that has a lovely indoor and outdoor arena- with seasonal access to a cross country course, track and .5 mile trail. We ask that you bring no dogs to our facility and to be very mindful of riders on horses! Drive cautiously, inside voices, don’t destroy anything, all that good stuff. Please feel free to contact me to come see the place and hear more about how we do things here.

Lessons are not just about riding, they are also about learning to care and safely be around horses. Here at Red Mare our main focus is getting our new riders to be able to confidently be around, work and be able to correct bad behaviors with horses as well as achieving each individual's riding goals. The core of all riding lessons have classical dressage principles, whether riding English or Western. Riders will be able to take this foundation with them to any riding discipline they choose. Emphasis is placed on the biomechanics of horses, and how to communicate with them effectively to achieve the best possible performance out of horse and rider-which is a universal skill.  I have experience in reining, western pleasure, and as mentioned, dressage.

I have close to 20 years of riding experience, 5 of which I have been teaching. Originally riding Western/Reining, but now have switched over to learning classical Dressage through the Pedro Torres academy for the last 7 years. Have also logged thousands of miles on trails, and just completed my first 25 mile endurance race in 2024.

Welcome! My name is Elisabeth McElhose, but everyone calls me “Elli!”  I am a passionate equestrian with a vision to introduce the world of horse riding and training to others with the same passion.

Inspired by my lifelong love for horses, I took a leap of faith and embarked on a remarkable journey to create my very own horse riding school.

I am an equestrian with a passion for introducing horse riding and training to people of all ages. My love for horses began at a young age. With determination and dedication, I recieved my Riding instructor Certification and established my own horse riding school. Red Mare Riding school provides a safe and nurturing environment for riders to develop personal growth and build a deep bond with their equine companions.

Safety is paramount at the school, and every horse undergoes extensive training to ensure their suitability for riders at various skill levels. I am also passionate about promoting equine welfare and responsible horsemanship and offers educational programs and workshops. The ultimate reward is seeing the joy and sense of accomplishment on our students' faces.—
